Nolan Hanson is a USA Boxing certified coach based in New York City.
He began boxing at the New Bed-Stuy Boxing Center, a community-run gym in Brooklyn founded by legendary trainer George Washington, who trained numerous amateur and professional champions. There, Nolan trained under two of George’s former students, Charles Trammell and Nate Boyd. More recently, he studied Soviet-style boxing under Talap Mamyrkanov, whose expertise has greatly influenced his approach to coaching.
Nolan’s educational and personal background informs his work as a coach. He sees boxing as more than just a sport. To him, it is a tool for building confidence, creating community, fostering mentorship, and creating opportunities for personal growth.
Today, Nolan trains fighters at the world-famous Gleason’s Gym in Brooklyn, New York.
WHAT people SAY
“After injuries outside the ring forced me to pause competing in amateur boxing, I was lucky enough to connect with Nolan and train without pressure. Even after recovering, I continued working with him until I was about to give birth. His ability to make sessions challenging, technical, and fun no matter where I was physically is what kept me coming back.”

“I came to Nolan from kickboxing classes, so I was used to high-energy, aerobic-style training. What surprised me most was that working with Nolan on real boxing fundamentals pushed me just as hard, if not harder. He trains professional fighters, but he met me exactly where I was, built my confidence, and made the learning process feel natural. If you’re looking for a coach who can work with anyone from serious competitors to fitness-focused beginners, Nolan is the real deal.”

“How can I fit in a paragraph all the good things I want to say about Coach Nolan!? After not boxing for a long time, Nolan was the perfect coach for my slow re-entry back to the sport. He worked at my pace, giving perfectly clear instructions about improving my form, movements and punches. When I’d hit the pad with the perfect punch Nolan may have been even more excited than me! His patience, ability to make me understand how to perform better, and his enthusiasm for the sport make his training sessions so fun and rewarding. I’m no longer able to spar but he still treats me as one of his boxers, which means everything to me. He’s the perfect coach for every experience level, and I truly couldn’t recommend him highly enough. Train with him once and you will be as hooked as I am!”
